What Are Our Pligmiages Like?

Our Pilgrimages are a sort of holiday especially on foot and by byke. With our luggage on the bike, we cover every day about 70-80 km looking all the time for significant places to visit. We usually sleep in convents, parisches and bed and breakfasts. At the end of the day, a tasty dinner is the right prize for our effort! But our cycling is not only a matter of physical training: we can say that, most of all, it is a spiritual journey. We can simply say that every person we meet is a good occasion…

In Modena Diocese, in addition to “Madonna del Castello” Sanctuary, there are three other minor basilicas:
Modena Cathedral
San Peter Church in Modena
San Silvestro Abbey in Nonantola

We can’t forget neither:

  • The Sanctuary of Puianello
  • San Francesco Church in Sassuolo
  • The "Basilica Madonna della Ghiara" in Reggio Emilia

These are the most famous catholic places of our county, but there are many other little chapels and romanesque cloisters that you can’t miss.

SANTUARIO DELLA BEATA VERGINE DEL CASTELLO

HISTORY
The sanctuary of Fiorano is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. Bilding started in 1634. It had to include the figure of the Blessed Virgin. It was painted on the big door of the old castle. This figure was ricacolously saved from the fire of 1558. In 1630 the people of Fiorano decided to build a little church if the village was saved from the plague. The village was saved and soon after the villagers started the works. The sanctuary was finally finished in 1907.
